Regiment ID - shoulder title - WW1 era
I would be grateful if anyone can shed light on the probable regiment of the gent in this photo?
Any help welcome! |

Looking through Westlake, the closet I can come up with would be Tyneside Scottish, Liverpool Volunteer Guard and Manchester City Service Battalions.
I’ve attached some screenshots of them. None of them look aa though they fully match the shoulder title in the picture, though.

Looks a bit too tall, but possibly 16th bn Manchester Regiment, the 1st City Pals?

The '1' looks separate from the rest of the title, and the bottom of the title is curved,so no ' Scottish' from the Tyneside Scottish title.

I would agree too big for either Manchester or Liverpool Pals, is it my eyes or is the epaulette shaped oddly? Looks like it is either shaped or the title looks like it wraps around it and is pulling it up to give the appearance of shaped?

Unfortunately, no details of where and when the photo was taken. This would certainly have been a helpful clue.
I have attached a close-up. Also, close-up of shoulder title worn by another gent in the photo, which show clearer view of numeral, which actually looks to be '7'; and slightly more clarity on writing on upper and lower scrolls. Other epaulette shows metal shoulder title with lugs, rather than slip on. I would now say 22nd (Service) Battalion (7th City 'Pals'), Manchester Regiment. |
