Can Any forum member identify this badge. I have looked online without success. It is the same height as a full size Royal Artillery cap badge.

I don’t know. It is included in a parcel of bits which I don’t have yet, just the picture. When I get them I will have a closer look.

On closer inspection it looks like the tip of a pin sticking out of the right hand side facing.

I've seen similar cast designs as "sweethearts" but that badge appears too large and of unlikely construction for a sweetheart.

I think it may be easier to work out once you can find the dimensions of the badge and show a picture of the rear. The closest thing I can find is the front piece of an officer's 1856 shako plate. I have attached a picture of my version when dismantled. The Per Mare Per Terram circlet on the vast majority of officers helmet plates is pierced but this shako is solid.

With those three small squared lugs it was definitely an overlay badge of some sort that had a backing plate. Maybe part of a helmet plate, belt buckle or shoulder belt plate.

Many thanks for the helpful reply. Something looks to have been attached with solder to the top once which seems to have left an impression of a lug? Looking at other Royal Marine insignia I wonder if it may have been a grenade or bugle? Just a thought!

The pictures attached show the RMLI officer’s glengarry - similar to your badge but then quite different. It is the same size as, if not actually made from, the centre of the officer’s helmet plate.
If yours is smaller I would have thought it might be a sweetheart item made up from pieces of different badges. The missing part at the top could be a horn like this one?

It’s difficult to determine whether the Laurel wreath was originally attached to the circlet or whether it is 2 separate pieces put together for the purpose of making this (sweetheart) badge.
From the varieties I have it seemed quite common to take pieces from different badges to make up a sweetheart badge.
The circlet could be from a helmet plate, horse martingale or shake plate maybe.
I am thinking Paddy might be able to determine a specific era (and even badge(s) for the globe and if so, that might give you a corresponding era to look for the circlet/wreath
