Thanks Alex for mentioning this. I had my reservations on these too and also the bullion SAAF wing. It just does not look the part of a period bullion SAAF wing, especially with the 'manufacturing error' in the crest.

Also knowing how rare the Rhodesian pilot wings are, I would want those two cloth wings compared with known originals to see how they measure up.

Just from the photographs, I would say that because of the materials and manufacture used, that both post date the extant period of the RhAF and the RRAF.

Hi AATTV,
Nice collection of badges. Would you be able to post a pic of the back of Selous Scouts wing (without the felt backing of course!)? Just interested to see if its numbered & if it is, what is the number.
Thanks, Dave

Hi AATTV
I am by no means an expert on these but unfortunately I would not really be happy with them, in my opinion they are both spurious, the wing because of the KC and the cap badge because I have never seen or heard of such a badge, and that is with knowing some Rhodesian collectors with huge collections and knowledge.
Cheers,
Alex

Alex, you would never see an original badge made like those, they appear to be of recent manufacture, not unlike the dross offered by "old club badges"

Spurious indeed. I've looked at pretty much every photo of Rhodesian pilots in the gigantic Rhodesian Air Force history book and those posted all over the internet and have never seen one with RRAF worn anywhere.

I tend to agree with suggestions that Rhodesian and South African stuff should belong together in the same section - whatever it is called. I am of course biased as I had family who served in the forces of both countries incidentally during WW2 Smuts was CinC of "South African and Rhodesian Forces" by some strange quirk rather than their respective Governor General or Governor
