Like so much other kit they may also have been stored for some time and issued years later for various reasons.

I think you can be sure that badges were not recalled because of a change in fittings - in fact exactly the opposite happened and orders were given that old stocks were to be used up before new orders were made. To put this in perspective when the 1st Monmouths and the Inniskilling Fusiliers decided to change their cap badges in the 1920s, the ACD agreed but only on the condition that the regt's paid them for the unissued stock!
