Mazeas 1920-1950 Corrections
Hello all,
A South African dealer uncovered an error in the revised edition of Mazeas 1920-1950. On p 82 the badges of Le Régiment de Montmagny are incorrectly labelled as The St John Fusilers, and vice versa. Wyn |

Isn't Chris Brooker working on a 1920-1950 super series that is nearing completion?

I heard from a friend of mine that he was supposed to write a series of book on all the Canadian regimental cap badges,in alphabetical order (A to D E to H and so on), and it was to come out just after the COTC book (which came out about a year ago). Perhaps he's waiting to complete his work before publishing or still trying to find a publisher.

This is just weird: in the 'original' revised edition (July, 1985), these are labelled correctly. In the recent reprint version (which, I notice, doesn't actually say anywhere it's a 2nd printing or have a date other than the original 1985 on back page), these are indeed flipped. Great, now we have different corrections in two different printings of the same book.

There may be more of a problem with the 1985 edition. I have the 1985 "revised edition" and the labels are incorrect in it. The St John Fus is the label for the Regt de Montmagny.

Picture is P82 from the original Insignes Canadiens 1920-1950/Canadian Badges Revised Edition (July 1985), with correct labeling. These are incorrectly labeled in the new version.

21st Alberta Hussars
After picking up this badge, I think the 21st Alberta Hussars should be included in the 1920-1950 book.
Concise Lineages says "The regiment was raised April 1, 1908 and amalgamated with the 23rd Alberta Rangers May 15, 1920" [to form the Alberta Mounted Rifles]. By extension, the 23rd Alberta Rangers should also be in the 1920-1950 book. The 21st AH badge is Scully marked, and the same badge was used for cap and collars. |

I missed this post David. Thanks for your observations. There are several pre-1914 badges, like these that should be included in the post war issue.

Another omission. Mazeas shows the collars for the Norther Pioneers as the large pre-1914 pattern. This pattern was used into the 1920's, but was replaced by the smaller canoe collars show with the M145 Algonquin Regiment cap badge. The Northern Pioneer collars were the same pattern, but made in brass. I believe they were approved at the same time as the 1928 Northern Pioneer badge.
For collectors, the appropriate Norther Pioneer badges for the 1920 - 1936 period should include both the large pattern and small pattern collars in brass.

For C.44 The British Columbia Mounted Rifles, Mazeas references G.O 31 / 1931. The authority for this badge is G.O. 71 / 1922. Nit - picky, huh?

Clive has pointed out that the correct name for CATS is the Canadian Auxiliary Territorial Service, not Transport as indicated in S34.
