Royal Artillery other ranks brass collar badges with the bullion officer's badge in the first photo Mark?
Do you know who had the first contract for the RAA officers and ORs hat badges when the QC version was approved on 26 May 1954 - Stokes or Amor? Keith |

My copy of the Army's insignia design approval docs, cite that same date (as would be expected). However, I don't have access to the actual production contract records here, so I have no way of knowing which manufacturer was the first one contracted. Nevertheless, the next time we're digging around in Canberra, I will see if I can get an answer. As for the British Army collars, I placed them in the reference collection to remind me to check suggestons that they were used/adopted on some early versions of the Patrol Blues uniforms. Perhaps others have heard the same? Either way, I was hoping to see if the AWM's uniform collection would provide an answer in due course. However, about 12 months ago, I was told all of the non displayed uniforms in the AWM's collection have now been vaccum sealed and cold treated to stop insect attacks. So, that avenue of research may be difficlt to pursue at present. Hopefully, others in the forum may have some information on the suggested adoption of the British collars... then again, it may come down to nothing provable. Regards Mark

Hi Mark,
On ebay recently was an RAA officer's mess dress jacket, with gilt and silver grenades on the collars (gilt grenade, silver scroll). Cheers, Keith |

QC artillery beret badge
Hi Mark,
QC artillery beret badge picked up from UK recently, note the north/south eye shanks. I suggest the RAA examples being sold in Australia are purchased direct from the UK. It is possible that places like Christies purchase wholesale, then supply other outlets such as the RAA kit shop. Keith |

That looks exactly like the items available here in Oz... so I think you'd be right on the money about the manufacturing source! Best regards Mark

No problem, I'm glad the information helped. BTW, I believe there are about 3 copies of the ('Revised') edition of Volume 1 left. So, if you are looking for the matching pair of volumes, it might be best to get in touch with me directly. Once the current listings on eBay are sold, we will have a few copies of volume 2 left and then the books will be out of print until we prepare further editions. BTW, I have noticed one dealer selling a (signed) first edition of Volume 1, rather than the current 'Revised' Edition. That would probably appeal to 1st Edition collectors generally, rather than just militaria collectors. Nevertheless, you could get another shot at a copy of Vol 1 there, if needs be. On the other hand, if you only want Volume 2... there's probably enough copies in stock with us (or with a couple of dealers and at the AWM) to last until Christmas. Time will tell of course. In due course, I expect we will see photocopied versions of Vol 1 for sale, just as you see of Alfred Festberg's works for sale on eBay from time to time. Interestingly, you rarely see photocopies of Jeff Cossum's books for sale on line. Although, they can be found at militaria fairs... as 'old hands' and dealers copy their originals and sell them and write their price and availability notes on their copied versions. In due course, the same will probably happen to Volume 2... at least until new editions are completed and released. Nevertheless, we are currently working on two new Volumes (for 1901 through to 1952), so there will be a 'conflict' in our writing priorities for some time I think. I expect that it may well be several years before we revisit Vols 1 and 2 again. As for a simple re-print (if the market asks for one)... well I'm personally not in favour of going down that path. So, unless we've overlooked some important problem, I think that would be an unlikely course. Having said all of that, good luck with your collecting! The only electronic edition we put out, was of Volume 1. The electronic version includes variations and runs to 615 pages While the hard copy was 'slimmed down' (by removing most 'variations') to 236 pages (as I recall It is still downloadable. The links to Gumroad's epub site are shown on charliebravobooks.com However of you need the hyper linkt to the site I can put it up here in needed? Regards Mark Regards Mark
