Default volunteer ambulances in WWI

This link takes you to the 1914-1916 searcheable publication "First Aid & The St. John Ambulance Gazette"

It shows the massive effort to ferry wounded men from the French and Belgian battlefields to hospitals in the UK.
There are other years higher up in the same link.
