Default Salvation Army badges/Pins

I've recently picked up a few wartime Salvation Army pins and see lots of different ones on eBay. However, I have no idea which ones are wartime, 1 or 2, related. Can anybody advise me? I would sure like to get a cap badge and maybe a set of collars for my small Home Front collection. I have two Women's Worker pin for women who worked in the canteen vans.

Any help is appreciated,

Haven't really done any research into the Salvation Army badges and pins.

The YMCA Women's Auxiliary pins are "usually" classed as WW2 but as at least 40,000 women served with them in WW1 I find it strange that they did not have their own badges ?

Is it possible that the badges were introduced during the inter-war years as the "National Women's Auxiliary" only gained recognition in 1918 ?

Quote:
The Women's Auxiliary became so important within the YMCA movement that by mid 1918 it was given its own identity and constitution within the YMCA movement becoming the National Women's Auxiliary.
From the 1920's :

Quote:
In accordance with instructions from the Executive, this Committee met and discussed the following questions in regard to uniform.

3. Service Stripes.
A blue service stripe for each completed year's service to be worn just above the wrist strap of the right sleeve and should be 3" long, 1/4" wide and 1/4" apart.
The embroidered red triangle badge for the right sleeve (6" from top of sleeve) can be procured also at the Lady Workers Department.

6. Bars and Badges
It is recommended that the Order of the Red Triangle be worn attached to a ribbon (black or red) with a bar to be added for each year's service.

Metal shields were worn as badges by Salvationists from the early 1880s.

Photos from Salvation Army website :

2. Silver Badge from 1910

The "War Cry" magazine is also a good source , this advert from 1935 (photo 3) can help date the different style/era of badges.

Thanks Mike,

All very interesting. I am not at all knowledgeable on this subject, but do know they ran canteens or vans in both wars. I am primarily only interested in British or Commonwealth. I will will continue my research as well. Thanks again,

Terry
