Default Cardiff Spitfire Fund?

I am happy to have stumbled across this little war savings badge. It may not be specifically for a Spitfire Fund but I cannot find another one on the internet.

I presume that they are relatively scarce.

Nice badge. More likely to have been for the 1943 Wings for Victory campaign which made wide use of the slogan "I Save for Victory".

The metal edge/frame also used by the Wings campaign in Torquay, Wednesbury as well as Birmingham and Newton Abbott was unlike the more elaborate enamelled Spitfire Fund badges, which by 1943 would have probably been unobtainable or expensive.

Thank you both for your informative replies. Great to some examples of similar fund raising badges.

Most of these WW2 war savings badges seem to relate to the West Midlands and then south-westwards.

Here is another one that I bought just over the border a few years ago.

Very nice indeed, given the cheap manufacture of these tin paper covered badges, I doubt if there will be many others extant these days.

Another example for the Beverley Spitfire Fund. Also is a link to some archive footage of a fund raising event held in Saturday Market around the bandstand circa 1941. Band is from the East Yorkshire regiment but there looks to be a lot of very young faces here. Banners for the band have `The Snappers` on them for obvious reason.

Keep smiling, Dave

Great Video Dave!!!

A side question on this thread. Is there a way to safely clean the edge of one of a pin like the one in the original post without harming the printed part of the pin? I see some Nurse Day pins I'd like to get and have wondered about that

Terry
