Thanks to the site's powers that be there is now a link to the website of The Military Heraldry Society which is dedicated to all aspects of cloth insignia, from Victorian to modern.

For a very modest sum members receive four full colour copies of our journal - The Formation Sign - a year, details of which can be found on the website. There is also an index to the contents of every issue since 1990 - most back numbers are available, the more recent issues also available in electronic form. The quarterly Journal is only available to members.

I think members are aware of the depth and value of Jon's posts on this forum - they regularly receive compliments. Some may not know that Jon is the editor and a leading light within the Military Heraldry Society. The journal 'The Formation Sign' is a full colour production full of useful information across a whole range of military insignia subjects - regularly including updates on new dress distinctions ... it is an invaluable source.

There is a good collector fraternity, with exclusive contact between members for trades etc - most at below Market prices. Membership will also gain access to reprints of Warring's insignia guides - over a dozen of them if I am not mistaken - covering military insignia of the world. Originals relating to the UK command three figure prices, if you can find them - yet reprints available to members are arguably in a more convenient format - fully reproducing original content, but in handy pocket sized form - a boom for reference when travelling to fairs etc

The Specials released each year have covered a host of subjects - RAF / Aviation anniversary issue, and a range of specialist insignia centric editions, from NAAFI etc to Tanks.

Membership is extremely good value for money, and I would encourage any serious collector/researcher to join - what is there to loose? there is certainly, in my experience, a lot to gain ...

I have been a member of the Military Heraldry Society for more than 40 years and have learned a huge amount from the articles in its journal ‘The Formation Sign’ and from interaction with other members at meetings and Militaria Fairs.

If you have an interest in collecting or the history of cloth insignia and are not already a member follow the link from the Forum page and have a look at the descriptions of the content in previous issues. Also dip into the index which will show the wide ranging contributions and coverage published over many years.

As Mike B highlights in his post, the cost of membership from £17 to £27 depending on where you live is very good value!
