Light Infantry rank insignia
A tunic in Canada has stirred some controversy. It is a pre-1914 British red tunic badged to the 106th Winnipeg Light Infantry. It has sergeant's chevrons that appear to be RAF / RCAF colour (light blue on dark blue). It has been established this was correct for the WLI.
My question, is there such a practice, likely pre-1914, in British light infantry regiments to wear such blue rank insignia? Badge backings?

Only the standard white worsted or gold tape, both on scarlet were worn by British LI regiments at that time.

Agreed regarding plain white stripes. A GS infantry pattern and also used on cuffs inverted as good conduct badges. See enclosed image of drummers tunic.
