mystery button, police? oriental?
I have had this button for over 30 years and I have never found out what it is nor have I seen another one.
All I know is that it came from a huge police badge collection. The button is open backed, high quality silver plated. It seems oriental but I do not know if it is a clock or a crown. I have no clue what the symbols represent. Does anyone know? |

Hello btns
I've not seen your button before but could that 'device' be a pagoda? It certainly seems to be an oriental design and if it is a stylised pagoda then it could be from Nepal, China, Japan, Korea, Burma and so on, almost any Asian country in fact! No backmark I take it? Roger |

Thank you for your replies.
It does not have a backmark. I had not considered a pagoda, thank you. I am going to research Weihaiwei. I am going to post a picture of its back. It is a high quality button, possibly British manufacture. It could also be French, ca. 1900. |

Most likely Burmese or Thai ..

After research I am now considering it could be Cambodian or Laotian.
The 'hat' resembles the "Great Crown" both countries (used to) have for their kings. |

I agree with Khyber: likely Thai or Burmese.

As promised a while ago, here is a picture of the back.
It is a superb button. |

Nicely made indeed. It looks as if it may have been lacquered at some point as well, though I'm not sure that is significant.

I think I finally found a Royal Cypher more or less matching the button.
It has the same number of vertical lines and the connecting curves seem to match. It is Thai and has a very long link. Next is to work out who was appointed crown prince ... https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8...%E0%B8%A1_2555 Here are Google's Royal Thai Cyphers: https://www.google.nl/search?tbm=isc...r=1.25#imgrc=_ |
