Staffordshire Regiment Collars with Silver Knot

Two pairs of anodised Staffordshire Regiment collars. The top pair is what I am familiar with, but what is the significance of the bottom pair with the silver knot? Notwithstanding the obvious differences they are a much heavier and chunkier build.
