Portrait defaced by multiple punch and gouge marks.

This example has a high tin content hence the silvery appearance.
Unpopular Emperor after reign of eight months, dragged through the streets of Rome by the mob tortured and dismembered then thrown into the Tiber.

The second coin with centering device used to smooth down rough cast planchets before striking.

Daughter of Antonius Pius; niece of Hadrian; married to Marcus Aurelius; mother of 13/15 children including the future emperor Commodus. Died accidently in Halala military camp aged 45.

Coin in poor condition but rare in this denomination.

Sestertius of Viminacium Moesia Superior (Kostolac Serbia).
Ob: Laurate head right IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG.
Rev: Moesia standing between bull and lion. PMS COL VIM
AN VI in exurge = 245 AD.
Viminacium was the home base of Legio Septima Clavdia Pia Fidelis whose emblems were the bull and lion. A year before this coin was issued they were joined there by Legio Flavia Felix 1V whose emblem was solely the lion.

Rev: Coiled serpent with four loops, head right with forked tongue and thin tail. OYLPPAC PAYTALIAC.
There are many versions of this reverse a close match is Varbanov 5197 but serpent has head left.

Rev: Verina standing holding transverse sceptre. B-E in fields.
Believe it or not this is actually quite a clear example of these small Leo bronzes.

In left field HYP with line above (date letter for 94/5 AD).

Assassinated by his court officials with the conivance of his wife.
Thereafter his memory was dammed by the Senate. (Damnatio Memoriae)
