Ae 24 Koinon of Makadonia. Ob: Bare head left OYITELLIOS GEPMANIKOS AVTOC. Portrait defaced by multiple punch and gouge marks. Rev: Macedonian shield SEBASTOS MAKEDONON. This example has a high tin content hence the silvery appearance. Unpopular Emperor after reign of eight months, dragged through the streets of Rome by the mob tortured and dismembered then thrown into the Tiber. RPC 1616. AYT KMA GORDIANOC AVG Rev: Zeus seated holding patera in left and sceptre in right hand, eagle at foot left. ADPIANOPOELITON, The second coin with centering device used to smooth down rough cast planchets before striking. |

Moushmov 3458,Varbanov 1439. Daughter of Antonius Pius; niece of Hadrian; married to Marcus Aurelius; mother of 13/15 children including the future emperor Commodus. Died accidently in Halala military camp aged 45. |

Sestertius of Viminacium Moesia Superior (Kostolac Serbia). Ob: Laurate head right IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG. Rev: Moesia standing between bull and lion. PMS COL VIM AN VI in exurge = 245 AD. Viminacium was the home base of Legio Septima Clavdia Pia Fidelis whose emblems were the bull and lion. A year before this coin was issued they were joined there by Legio Flavia Felix 1V whose emblem was solely the lion. Moushmov 36 VI. |
