Default J.R.GAUNT LONDON LTD Motto

I believe this is an uncommon makers mark by Gaunt dating to c. 1974 from what I read on page 50 of the aa book, flatbottomed G with no fullstop after LTD

Hi Jerry,

As you say:

A rare Gaunt marking without the full stop following ‘LTD’. The body of the letter ‘J’ in ‘J.R.’ is usually faint and
the bottom of the ‘G’ in ‘GAUNT’ is flat. Date of use is unknown but a badge, with this mark, has been
discovered in the Imperial War Museum, London on a standard sealed pattern tag, pattern No. 20901, for the
Honourable Artillery Company (TA) (Infantry - WO1, Staff Sergeants and Sergeants) dated 25th March 1974.

Regards,

Chris

thanks you Chris for confirming what I had read in your book.

I wonder how many different unit badges are out there with this version of the Gaunt mark and how many of each example?

I have checked all my A/A badges with a JR GAUNT LONDON LTD mark and as far as I can see I have none of the mark mentioned.

Does this fit the bill? I'll check to see if I have others. Funnily I kept this one as other Queen's Lancs with the coloured rose that I had come across had extremely long sliders.

If i am not mistaken there is a Royal Hampshire Regiment badge on e bay at the moment for £10 carrying this mark. Just in case anyone is interested. I have no connection with the seller and it is not an item that i am interested in but others may be.

Ta, despite having served decades ago in a mixed unit with bloke's from "The Hamsters" I don't think I've ever aquired an anod. al. R Hant's badge other than one without its slider - so I've gone for the one you've given the heads up on.
"Back in the day" I didn't really bother with what were common or garden anod. als. like The R Hant's, PoW Yorkshire's, King's, R Anglian, RWF etc - all ground to be made up now........
