I picked up a household cavalry badge nearly 30 years ago with a name scratched on the back, a few years ago now orasot looked him up and his rank was corporal of fencing if rember correctly.

Thank you for the message, which I have only just noticed, but, it does not do to dwell, I only commented because it was suggested the title on the postcard was somehow spurious.
It is a very difficult question to answer, unless you were actually there, at Woodentop Farm when the photograph was taken, which is important, in that he was a serving member of the GMGR.
The postcard is not clear enough so I have to go with the evidence that I can read as mentioned rather than simply make suggestions.

I am certainly not going to have ago at this man, in particular, with the way things are at the moment, with memorials, he cannot answer for himself, I would take the view he was a very fine soldier.

Notwithstanding, if I were a betting man, which I am certainly not, on the subject of what is being worn, my money would be on a rankers RHG cap badge, a pair of rankers RHG shoulder titles, a brass/gm wound stripe upon his left sleeve, cloth inverted service chevrons upon his right, a pair of cloth sergeants rank chevrons and a pair of embroidered cloth, rather than metal, Tudor crowns.

If it is a crown he has invented something like [Acting] Lance Corporal-of- Horse some 50 years before the Household cavalry got round to it.

First I’ve seen on a dealers list/listings for a very long time and comes with the price tag to match.

I think I would still be at the two fifty mark even today.

I would agree. That badge hasnít experienced that sort of inflation, rather, the seller is well know for overpriced items.

So I bought the eBay listed badge but not at the listed price but much closer to the £250 suggested here. I post it here just for a quick confidence check having nearly been done over with a copy earlier this year. I am pretty sure it had all the correct attributes including the dot dash crimp to the slider.

Thanks

Mark

Thanks Simon and Luke, not cheap but they are not exactly plentiful on dealers lists. I am very pleased to fill a gap in my MGC collection.

Good luck with your search .. I found an officers badge for £500 from a well known dealer when I came to pay I was told it was sold . I later found out it wasn't sold, it was now up for sale at £1000
All I can say is that its not the way I do business

Default GMGR OR'S AND OFFICERS BADGES AND BUTTONS

I have only just picked up on this link and was very interested to see Mark's OR's badge and the comments on it. I have long been doubtful about mine with so many copies around but the comments on Mark's badge makes me think mine may be good as well with the dot/dash slider? I also show my Officers gilt one for interest which came with the buttons (however I do not collect buttons.)

Hello Dennis. Your ORs badge looks fine to me. I managed to get one last year, https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...highlight=gmgr Thats at least two examples in Berkshire. My grandfather was GMGR, but he enlisted into Second Life Guards at Windsor and so would never have worn the GMGR cap badge. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for sending photos of yours. Yes, I think it is identical to mine with the dot/dash slider. Regards Denis
