Yes Grey Green Acorn they are. Are they now yours? I viewed the cards when they were on line and they were a very thorough collection of the more commonly available with some hidden gems such as the Cinque Ports officers SG/enamel. I have not been able to access them since as they could be a useful resource.

I do stress that my above comment was based on two online viewings and I never saw the whole collection in the flesh so to speak. I am quite happy to be corrected about the quality of the badges.

No I don't own the badges but I do have pictures of about 250 of the cards!

Difficult to tell but there are certainly some well known restrikes and "unofficial" anodised aluminium badges amongst the collection.
Here are a couple more cards that might interest you.

Thank you for those. I feel that she ran out of interest with the ES badges. The only one to catch my eye at the time was the T6 shoulder title. The collars are all singles too though I quite understand why some collectors only ever buy single collars. She certainly did a lot of collecting to reach 250 odd boards.

Hi Grey Green Acorn,

Don't suppose there was a Berkshire related board by any chance was there?

If so could you post a copy of the picture please.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Alan,

I have seen the White metal version of the standard Royal Berkshires Regt (KK667) variously described as both : 1st VB and 4th Bn Territorials.

If I remember correctly, Bosleys have sold a white metal version of the standard R. Berks (KK667) badge, which they sold as 1st VB. They also sold a silvered (NOT hallmarked) bladed version of the same badge which was attributed to Officers of the 1st VB.

The more normal version of the 1st VB badge is the usual R.Berks badge but with a small tablet above the "Royal Berskhire" scroll, inscribed "1stVB". (See Picture). Versions of this badge exist in Bronze, Brass (Gilding Metal) and White metal.

There is also a Chrome version of the standard KK667 pattern badge, which is attributed to the Band.

I am also lucky enough to have a hallmarked silver version (dated Birmingham 1897) of the standard pattern, which Dress Regs of 1900 describe as an Officer's Field Cap or Glengarry badge.

If you notice in the picture kindly posted by grey_green_accorn, the large tail of the W/M dragon has been bent upwards and away from the dragon. I would guess damage rather than being made that way.

Cheers

Ian

Ian,

Thanks. There is always going to be confusion here as they were the same Bn. No doubt 1st VB badges were not instantaneously replaced in 1908 by the 4th Bn wm ones. I suspect that the 4th Bn wore brass in khaki anyway. Odd that Bosleys pulls forward the wm one to pre 1908 though.

Alan
