Any interest in military weapons?

I've been collecting antique military arms for quite some time have a pretty large collection (benefits of living in Canada), I thought you all might find some of my stuff interesting.

1918 dated P'08 Trooper's Sword, marked to the Fort Garry Horse.

US Civil War Springfield M1861 (1863 Norwich) and Spencer M1860 carbine

British-contract HAFDASA Ballester-Molina - mainly issued to the SOE, which makes you wonder about the staining on the slide


1919 RAF issued Colt 1911 .455 Webley Auto

Although the picture doesn't quite do the size justice, this is "Big Boris" - my PTRD-41 anti tank rifle. 78" overall length, 40 lbs - It's a real thrill when you pull the trigger on this one! You can just see the size of the 14.5mm round relative to the rest of my cartridge display along the top of the cabinets.

Hey, always great to see another Webley lover! It may not be military, but I suspect you'll enjoy this 1910 auto in .38 ACP. Love your .32 and your 1909 - unfortunately the .32s are illegal here, but I'd love to find a 1909 someday.



The holster has seen better days, but it fits the gun like a glove!

Great pictures and thanks for posting them.

My subject is the Matabele War of 1893/94 and the Matabele Rebellion of 1896/97, a subject I have spent a lot of years researching and on which I have written many words,(not published) with particular reference to the weapons used on both sides, their history, effectiveness, and in some cases subsequent development, but all old weapons interest me.

Very few of the 19th century weapons referred to above are known to still exist, a Gardner Gun being the prize one, whose history I have traced from manufacture to its present location in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

I hold my own private two minutes silence when ever I think of the old weapons which went into reinforcing the concrete when the dam wall was built at Kariba in the 1950's. History lost forever.

Six or seven Russian Maxims. Wow, that will take some beating. I am very impressed.

As you so rightly imply, a lot of us whilst having a deep interest in badges also have 'non-badge' military interests, and as said on this forum in the past, it is a matter of sharing those interests with like minded people in the section duly provided, which nobody is under any obligation to read.

I thought the title of this Forum said it all when it came to members interests: no weapons, no Nazi regalia or anything else are mentioned in it.

There is a time and a place for everything. Sorry, but this is neither the time no place for showing off weapons.

I am sure that most badge collectors have items other than insignia amongst their collections, however, without being too much of a grump I would not like to see this forum turn into an online arms fair.

I used to attend several "militaria fairs" in search of badges etc, but these are often swamped by edged weapons and de-activated firearms. In the UK the laws regarding firearms are far more strict than on the continent or other parts of the world and whilst "forbidden fruits" may appeal to many, I for one welcomed this forum as a platform for badge collecting.

having collected cap badges and various militaria over the last 30 years or so, i cannot see why a few images of some very nice military firearms are offensive to certain members? yes it is indeed a forum for cap badges, but at the same time as stated, other militaria! just remember you don't have to view the thread!!
