6th South African Armoured Division slip ons
From my collection, some epaulette slip ons badged to a couple of regiments serving in the 6th SAAD, 11th and 12th Brigades. My preferred ones are those of the ILH*KR, because it has been the first allied formation to enter my home town, Florence, but by far the most difficult to find were the Special Service Battalion ones. I hope some day I will manage to have them all, but i guess they will be harder and harder to obtain ...

Are both the pairs of Natal Mounted Rifle titles in white metal?
The ones on the BD material look interesting. Regards Frank |

Here is one of a pair of brass NMR STs.
Dont ask me where, when, how cos I dont know! It may have been stamped out as the edges curl up at the rear but it is a little rough so probably theatre made. Blue Mar 14 016.jpg Blue Mar 14 009.jpg regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
At a glance, I don't think that was made in Italy, nor do I think it was worn in the second world war! Regards Frank Quote:

To be honest I am not sure where these were issued or worn, I have not seen any like them, they are normally white metal, chromed and I have a pair in aluminium. Brass titles to NMR must be scarce. Brian |

Hi Frank,
I did actually edit it that the edges I now suspect are because they are cast and its due to shrinkage, but for some reason it didnt save. However what are you feelings. regards, Iain

Hi Brian,
I can't say, I have also in my collection a brass cast, theatre made British RTR cap badge, these are usually white metal. (RTR Bandsmen wore a brass version but with a "withdrawing tank.") There are plenty of these around probably made in Cairo as the RTR served in N Africa. I suspect in this case SA Servicemen who served with the RTR, brought them back to SA. Funny things happened in WWII. We all know there was a shortage of brass in SA. I'm not saying in this case that I'm right or wrong. regards, Iain

LOL Iain,
Very clearly Great War GWSA worn by the NMR in their 3rd MR guise, very rare too! Regards Frank |
