Default Arab Legion Pilot's wings

The Arab Legion Air Wing or Air Force - authorities differ on the title - was raised shortly after WW2 but it was not in fact until 19 April 1951 that the first Jordanian pilot was presented with his wings. The photo shows King Abdullah making the presentation. Sadly only the following day the King was assassinated outside the Grand Mosque in Jerusalem.

On 25 September 1955 the ALAF was renamed the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The wings shown were only worn between 1951 and 1955. The badge in the centre is that of the Arab Legion.
