Default ATS Breast badge

I have seen ATS breast badges - RASC, Royal Signals etc but what does a small KINGS CROWN mean?

Not quite sure what you mean by "small Kings crown" It is my belief that ATS then WRAC wore a collar badge of the Regiment or Corps they were attached to.

Default ATS BREAST BADGES

The ATS wore a small badge on their left breast pocket
The photos show a Royal Signals breast badge

But what did the small Kings badge represent?

Any help appreciated - thank you

The crown indicates an ATS serving with War Office Controlled units which did not have a regimental or Corps affiliation such as Army record offices.

A post-war Army Council Instruction authorised the crown for WRAC serving at The War Office, Formation HQs, WO Schools, WO and Command Holding Centres, WRAC Basic Training Centres, Military Record Offices, WRAC Recruiting Staff, WO Selection Board Staff and Personnel Selection Staff. Cloth crowns have also been recorded worn above the pocket.

Default ATS BREAST BADGES

Jon

Many thanks - just what I needed.

The ATS in the Special Duties Branch of Auxiliary Units were mainly Officers who wore the Royal Signals breast badge. However a small team of ATS other ranks were the admin staff at Aux Units GHQ Coleshill.

A new photograph that we have just got shows an ATS Lance Corporal wearing the small Kings Crown.

Best wishes
