Thanks Ben, much appreciated!
Now wondering if anyone has an actual foto of this evidently rare and very old badge? Many thanks again for taking the time and effort to find this excellent info. All the best William |

I think you might be struggling, even Field Marshal Chapple’s collection only appears to have a single button!

Can anyone please explain what is Izzat?
Now looking for an image of cap badge for 56th Bengal Native Infantry. There might be others later on, so wondering if I can look for a copy of Izzat to buy, but don't know the author or full title of the publication. Many thanks for any comments or advice. All the best to all. William Last edited by William; 10-03-24 at 04:45 PM. |

Izzat-Historical Records and Iconography of the Indian Cavalry Regiments 1750-2007, by Ashok Nath, by far the best reference work on the subject. ‘Izzat’ - Urdu for ‘Honour/Pride’.
You may be lucky and find a copy on fleabay, otherwise contact the author directly, but it’s an expensive and vast book! |

Regarding the 56th BNI, here’s one I found on Pinterest (not difficult to find). 1829-35 apparently.

Thanks a lot Ben, for the info and the image. Actually looking for a fuller, less obstructed image of the badge, but thanks for the Pinterest tip and I’ll follow this further.
