Not an expert I only have 4 helmet plates to the regiment [Wiltshire ] that I collect to K/C x 2 Q V C x2 2 mint condition I have handled many many genuine one s- i always attend Boleys to look hold and learn Its difficult from your photo's to see if the plate is fire gilt If you remove the centre from the back plate you may find traces of the gilt this my help ,the gilt here tends to be near mint /original I do have an opinion but will let the experts here decide

I like this badge; however, my slight concerns are what appears to be pinkish/lilac plastic type thingy stuff seen in the side on pictures, protruding from the central arms of the cross.

In addition, there appears to be a nail protruding at the top of the rear; in one picture it seems to be straight, in another bent.

However, there doesn't appear to be a nail hole at the corresponding point on the front.

Notwithstanding these two points, I like the badge still and believe it is a genuine item, but temper this with the fact that it may have been tampered with at some stage, which would account for the two points I have made.

As ever, I stand to be corrected.

Regards

Brian

Default Derbyshire HP

I also have concerns with the pinkish substance under the centre badge. Whether it's right or made up of various pieces, I'm not certain, but the plate has certainly had a rough life.

Default Dismantled the badge to show individual components

Hello Guys,
Thank you for your feedback.
I have dismantled the badge now.
The pink stuff was blue tac holding it all together.
The shiny blue behind the Stag in centre is a foil. I suppose this was once a blue enamel ceramic disc ?!

The pins which hold the pieces together have been removed or shortened. - Reason for the pink blue tac.

There is still remnants of the pink blue tac on the reverse of some pieces which can be removed.

I was thinking of rebuilding the badge. As the pins have been removed, I was going to use Aradite, the two compound glue.

For the blue disc behind stag, I don't know.

Now that all the parts of visible, is it an original ?

I must add, all the pins and holes line up OK.

Re the blue disc there is a glass paint that you can buy from craft shops if done well difficult to tell from enamel
