Default US 7th Cavalry?

Can someone confirm please if this is indeed a US 7th Cavalry badge?

It has wire fixings, which are claimed for the Kepi.

I imagine this is probably one of the most reproduced badges in the US but if it is real any dating advice would be appreciated.

Hello Luke

There is a book called "History of the Artillery, Cavalry and the Infantry Branch of Service" that has a badge of similar construction to yours. It states General Order Number 52, 3 March 1902 authorized bronze insignia for all branches of service to be worn on the new olive-drab service uniform collars and hats. If you combine that with the information in the "United States Army Officers Collar Insignia `1902-1976" book it would appear your badge is 7th Cavalry "A" is the Company or Troop name.

Dennis is spot on with his assessment of the badge.

Thumbs up Thank you

Great info, thanks gents.

So to double check I’ve understood, it’s a circa 1902 collar / hat badge? Did wonder what the ‘A’ was for so that makes sense it’s A Coy or Troop.

Didn’t hear the f* word (fake) so does it stand a chance of being original do people think?

I thought your F word would be "F Troop".

From "1st Squadron 7th Cavalry (Garry Owen)" lineage :
