British West India Regiment. Almost all the African units wore either a Terai (slouch) hat, a woollen cap comforter, or a so-called (by historians) Kilmarnock bonnet (aka pork-pie type 'forage cap').

P.S. Your picture is quite well known on the web, Ron, and comes from the same group of images as the one that I enclose.

My grandfather 2nd Bn Linconshire Rgt served with Bermudians both white and black he said he could not understand them, he spoke with a thick Grantham accent which I had trouble with.

Interesting that the BWI troops were armed with Long LE rifles, of which there must have been a great number available around the Empire for second line and guard use. I posted a photo a while ago of Australian soldiers carrying LLE rifles, guarding German prisoners in WW1 and wearing GCC badges (German Concentration Camp), located in NSW.
I understand that the Naval Division at Gallipoli also had LLE rifles but have never been able to determine whether the KAR carried them in the East African campaign, which is a most interesting and often neglected part of WW1 military history.
