Seeking Thoughts
OK, I use riker cases to display my favorite items and have up until just recently used on red felt for the backing material. But I recently discovered a source for pieces of felt in numerous colors and am now in the process of changing some of the backing colors. I wnat to do it on a sort of typical uniform basis and this is how I am proceeding.
Army Cap, Metal Titles and Collar Badges and QARANS - Red Army Cloth Patches and Titles - Khaki Drab RAF and PMRAFNS - Twilight Blue RN and QARANS - Dark Blue FANY, WL, MTC - Khaki Drab (although Twilight Blue might work for MTC also) RAMC - Ruby BRCS/SJA/VAD - Blue WLA - Green Home Guard - Khaki Drab NAFFI - ???? Twilight Blue???? 7th Armored - ???? This last one is the one that has me stumped. I believe they had a khaki uniform, as well as their bright blue counter uniform - but which would be the best choice for them? Thanks for any feed back! Terry |

Hi Terry
For NAAFI, maybe dark blue, red then light blue strips for the three services? 7th Armoured, sand colour maybe, from the desert roots? Hope all is well mate Chris |

Thanks Chris,
Had not thought about using the 3 colors for NAFFI. Have to see how I can work that out. I had thought about a sand color for the 7th Armored as it does seem right for them. Thanks again, Terry |

Terry,
I have used ‘sticky backed plastic’ trade name Fablon in the UK and there are other makers. Available in various colours with a flocked ‘velour’ finish it can be used in strips like these examples for the Rifles and Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The material is stuck to 2mm A4 cardboard. Tim

Thanks Tim,
That looks really nice!!! I like felt because it is easy to poke a hole in for the slider or lugs, and if you move things you can usually brush over the old hole and it won't show. That allows me to alter he display as my collection grows. My better half, said she could sew the three colors together for the NAFFI, so now I just need to know which color should be the top color or should I do it at an angle like the overcoat patch??? Terry not sure if you are putting these on Cardboard or not, but I use hollow plastic sheet ( whats used on For Sale signs or any signage!) It is light, easy to mark out (accepts a pen) and you can easily trim rear to accept slider so only the front plastic supports the badge, this is easily covered in fabric.
I have a tread on this will attempt to send a link but might be I'll P.M. you as to where it is? |
