Canadian Parachute Corps
Hi,
Sorry to do a "is it fake or real?" post, but I was given this and unsure of the authenticity. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Ian |

Hi Ian, my first impression is that it is a repro. Better photos with close-ups of the lugs and front and back of the canopy are a must before a definitive yea or nea can be made. Dangerous copies of this badge have been made in the last 10 years. There are several excellent threads on this badge within the Forum. The Search option in invaluable in finding out more as is the book "Into the Maelstrom" by Ken Joyce.

I'd second Greg's first impressions. The colouring on the back especially makes me think it's one of the latest reproductions.

My first thougjht is that it is good. The pictures have not been shot straight on, so there is some distortion. As Greg said, a close up of the lugs would help.

Hello Ian, Unfortunately the picture you provided makes it very difficult to determine the authenticity of this badge. A clear close up picture of the front of the badge and the lugs would definitely narrow things down. I would hate to weigh in ‘off the cuff’ without knowing a little more. As already mentioned, they do produce a very convincing reproduction of this badge. Cheers

Hello Ian,
I'm afraid I must third it, it does not look real from these photographs, from the back in particular. Kind regards Frank |

The one in the post shows signs of lugs whereas this one is slidered - whats the significance?

Hello David,
The badge you show here is a Canadian Airborne Regiment, not a badge worn by the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Regards Frank |

Hello David, The badge in your post is the Canadian Airborne Regiment cap badge. The Canadian Airborne Regiment existed from 1968 - 1995. Several minor variations of their cap badge exist.

Thanks for the input. I'll try and take some better pictures and upload them in the next couple of days. The badge in question was found in a box of militaria and given to me due to my interest. Obviously it would be a disappointment if it isn't real, but luckily no large sums of cash were exchanged for it.

Good day GriffMJ,
Would it be possible for you to provide some clear pictures of the back of the cap badge? Also, maybe a couple pictures of your beret turned inside out to get a better look at the liner, leather binding and grommets? Thank you!

Okay, got it!
I thought it was your beret and you were looking for feedback, sorry for the confusion. After seeing some more pictures on the website you provided, I don’t really care for this beret with the 1st Can Para cap badge, or the “1943 dated” British Parachute Regiment beret he has listed either. Simply my opinion I’m stating. It’s too bad he doesn’t show the back of the 1st Can Para cap badge, or even better close up pics of the front. He’s a ‘dealer in militaria’, so someone may purchase these berets at face value also being sold at bargain prices if you think you’re getting a legit item. Thanks
