RND Hood
Hi All,
opinions welcome on this RND Hood badge. Anchor loop is unvoided - is this often seen(looks like the metal in the hole just not quite punched through properly). many thanks in advance, mark |

Awful photos but looks fine. A Friday afternoon job by the looks with the void on the anchor loop missing.

Apologies for the photos Luke - new camera and not used to it yet Any advice on how to remove the verdigris ? I think you mentioned WD40 before, but is there a special process ?

All depends how thick and deep it is and how far you want to go.
WD40 will help neutralise it to stop it spreading and send the existing verdigris a dark brown colour, it’s most effective for light verdigris i.e. you’re dealing with a few spots. This method preserves the patina and a few darker brass/GM colour spots are preferable to green. If you want it gone, gone then a soak in vinegar will do it but that will strip the patina of the whole badge and you’ll end up with a bright shiny badge. You could also try working the affected areas with a toothpick see if that gets any off. Sometimes I dip the pick in a little WD40 or polish to assist the abrasive effect, but it all depends how much time, effort and elbow grease you’re prepared to invest. In 20 mins I turned this to this with a mix of lemon juice and washing up liquid. The blemishes on the central circle are now gone due to the toothpick and polish method. |

have tried a toothpick and the verdigris is fairly loose and coming off, so I will continue with it before applying anything... Mark |
