I think sometimes people have these more scarcer badges stashed away and when they see one making reasonable money, they are tempted to offer up theirs.

I've only seen them made by Firmin ( marked FIRMIN LONDON). Its possible there was at least just one manufacturer, and therefore potentially just one run.

Interesting ,small unit. So limited numbers probaly. Dont recall ever seeing another makers mark or a blank version. That maybe is an indicator to only 1 or 2 production runs as Bess says.
The sealed pattern date that Chris Marsh mentions earlier is different to that quoted in K&K by 2 years . K&K being later . They also mention a sealed pattern of a KC anodised version of this badge. Sealed in 1952.
Personally ,its a rare badge but also very fragile as i said in an earlier post. Two in a week is coincidence. Could it be the same badge being sold.on ? It wouldnt suprise me if you waited 12 months to see the next one.

I have one but it did not cost me anywhere near £100. It's the sort of badge that pops up and can sell cheaply if the 'artillery' title is not spoted.

Found this one today for single figures, as Alan pointed out cheap if "Artillery" isn't spotted.

Tony,if you are going to mount it, be very careful straightening the slider a bit. Ive found the slider is well fixed to the badge but the right angle of the slider is weak. Lots seen with just the stub left.

Ian, Ive only seen them maker marked FIRMIN LONDON. There is a good chance that there was only ever a limited run for what was I would imagine a fairly small unit by numbers.

Hi bess55,

I have finally managed to complete the Royal Devon Yeomanry set. It has taken a while.

Regards,

Ian

Yes bess55,

Very happy about both the Volunteers and Artillery badges - managed to get them for two figure amounts each. Pays to be patient! Now looking for a Lancashire Fusiliers A/A. This will be harder to find with a two figure tag on it, but you never know.

Regards,

Ian
