Default Unknown armoured badge

Hello All

I recently picked up this badge along with a large batch of other armoured badges.

The badge was described as Indonesian but I haven't been able to find any reference to it in my reference books or on line.

The tank appears similar to a Vickers Light Tank Mk VI that was used by the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army in what is now known as Indonesia so the original description may not have been far off.

It measures 44mm(w) x 40mm(h) and made from a lightweight pressed whitemetal. The star is a separate piece to the rest of the badge.

Any assistance in identifying it would be appreciated.

Regards

Dennis

My guess is French as it has a French style to it, and the tank may be a Hotchkiss.

Could the tank on it be an Italian WW2 tank?

Hi Dennis, it is the tank badge for the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNLI), somewhere on the forum there was a discussion about it, best wishes Mike

This site has a page about the various badges :

NB; Page in Dutch but Google Translate works.

Thanks Fearnaught and Mike_Vee, I think you have both hit the nail on the head with your comments about the Dutch East Indies Army.

My badge is obviously slightly different in manufacture and has the addition of the star so warrants further investigation to find out its full history.

Personally I think the star is an addition by someone who thought that would improve the badge. Nothing official. But this is only a feeling.

That is my feeling as well.

It seems there were various versions of the badge , perhaps yours is a 'sweetheart' ?

1. Rear of 100% silver badge.

2. Small lapel pin.
