Default NZ Prison Service help required.

Hello all

can anyone tell me why there are so many variations of the NZ Prison Service cap badge?
As can be seen Gilt/ White metal.
Red backing / void
Justice / Corrections

Thanks Steve

Good question.

Department of Justice was the controlling government department for the Prison Service.
Then Prison Service changed their name to Corrections NZ
Gold was worn as part of the green uniform. though it looks as though your silver badges were worn before the green uniform.
The green uniform is now obsolete, and they now wear a new similar style silver badge again with a blue uniform.
Sorry my knowledge is limited.

Hi Steve,
I would suggest that it was the trend to change the term prison to make it more sensitive by using Justice/correction.
Penitentiaries is another term used by other countries rather then prison.Even the British onced used the term Gaol .

From Wiki :

Quote:
The Department of Corrections was formed in 1995, by the Department of Justice (Restructuring) Act 1995. Prior to 1995 the country's prisons, probation system and the courts were all managed by the Department of Justice.
