Seems like a 1937-1947 pattern to me, it lacks the raised crown.

Hi,
Thanks for pointing that out.In the version I posted the cypher is raised but the crown is not.I will now be on the lookout for the raised pattern as K&K 2117. Regards. Bantam |

It is however an unusual version, with its unvoided cypher. One that is still missing in my collection. Regards, fougasse1940 Last edited by fougasse1940; 18-12-07 at 07:42 PM. |

The GVI solid one is not a badge I have ever seen before. It is reminiscent of a WW1 economy but WW2 economys were in plastic of course. I have seen some WW2 badges produced but not voided (Beds and Herts and Argylles springs to mind from my own collection) but I have never been able to find out more about them.
I presume that it is not a copy. I cannot see that there is any profit reproducing a RASC badge and then not voiding it as it is such a common badge anyway. Alan |

A.S.C and R.A.S.C.
Hi All,
Thank you for your comments. One of the reasons for me staring collecting A.S.C. and its successors was the variation in the number of strikings. Here are a few more unusual patterns. They are both S/G officers one with an extra "S" and the other frosted silver.I have not photographed the rear of the badge due to it being back in its frame. Front and rear. Top:
1902 first KC version raised crown. OR's version? Below left: Ca. 1911 version, crown drops to garter. OSD version. below right: 1916 version, different garter tongue, different ASC monogram and different laurel wreath. OSD version. Regards, fougasse1940 |

An unusually large badge, to the left the normal sized version for comparison.
Believed to be a pouch badge. It still shows traces of gilding. I believe pouch badges came with a black enamel backing to the monogram. Sadly that's missing. Regards, fougasse1940. |

Two different RASC 1936-1937 badges with the "wrong" cypher.
The difference lies mainly in the points of the star. Left badge with sloppy voiding, unusual with lugs? Right badge with slider re-attached. Regards, fougasse1940. |

Two different post-1937 RASC badges with the "proper" cypher, again the difference is mainly in the points of the star. Right badge is stamped J.R.GAUNT LONDON

Perfectly correct about it being a pouch badge have two one with super enameling and no gilt and the other super gilding but the enameling as been replaced with some substance to replicate the enamel and looks to be sprayed sprayed on ? Regards Bantam |

But the earlier post with the silver-gilt badge has the same rear, so now i'm not sure. Regards, fougasse1940. |

It was in a very sorry state when I got it. I cleaned and straightened it. I'm thinking of having it properly re-gilded and a black enamel backing made for it. |
