My nan died recently and we found this war picture of her whilst sorting her belongings... I am trying to find out what branch of the military she was in.. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

It would have to be WAAF at that time, not WRAF. The shoulder flash could be the eagle, but it's hard to see from the cap's angle what the cap badge is. It doesn't look much like RAF/WAAF. It's also curious that the tunic is button left over right rather than right over left, unless the photo is backwards.

Default Unidentified Lady

If you assume a reversed negative and flip the image to get her tunic buttoned up the female way, there's a faint mark of a badge - grenade? - above her left breast pocket. If so, that makes her ATS and the sign would probably be AA Comd or one of the AA Divs. An expert in photo manipulation could probably do better.

No epaulets?- Did ATS have them? RAF tunics don't. Tie looks a bit light in colour. Regards, Paul.

She is WW2 WAAF. Tunic is correctly buttoned left over right, belt is correct (photo not flipped), with shoulder eagle on upper left sleeve.

The differences in colour could be sunlight or a faded photo.

I would agree, definitely WAAF and a Station WO's nightmare! Unbuttoned pocket, unpressed uniform, cap on the back of the head, belt the wrong way round ...

But I am sure she was a sweetie really!
