This photo is not of an Artillery gunner. Your relative is in the Imperial Yeomanry Cadets This is likely to be just before the First World War when he was at school. Does that tie in with his DOB? It certainly matches the Croydon location.

The shoulder chains were an affection derived form their cavalry connections. It is unusual to see them on khaki uniforms.

Possibly an Arthur Reginald Woods of the County of London Yeomanry and Machine Gun Corps rather than RGA?

Although the title on the opening post says RGA the note below the photo says Royal Horse Artillery.

The uniform is not RHA but it's not unusual for people to attribute bandolier wearing gunners to the RHA. In fact the RFA also wore them in huge numbers for their gun limbers.
