Default Volunteer Training Corps Mufti Badges

All,

Having updated my VTC K&K album yesterday (thank you for your comments), I have today refreshed my VTC Mufti Badge album.

By refreshed, I mean I deleted the vast majority of the 130 pictures in there, replaced them with newer photos, and then added another 135 new pictures of badges I've not shown before.

There are a number of 'queries' in the album, where I know a badge is "right", but do not know what unit it belongs too, or where there are still questions about whether a badge is in fact, "right". Any help answering these would be much appreciated; thanks in advance!

The album is called VTC Mufti Badges; here is a link: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=1273

Please enjoy, even if VTC is not your thing. Thanks!

Best regards, and stay safe, Tim

Superb collection. Such a great pity that during the early days of the formation of these 1914 home units, many of which ended up in the V.T.C., that no official lists of units were kept. All of the information that I have on units raised locally in Northumberland and Durham were taken from local newspapers.

Default VTC Mufti Badges

Thanks, all; appreciated!

Graham, I share that frustration, but at the same time that is what makes VTC research so rewarding; you get very little for free with it, every fact has to be dug for.

I am predominantly a badge collector, but like to know a bit about the badges in my collection. With the VTC there is no other option; it has to be newspaper research...

That said, about 800 units are mentioned in Ray Westlake's VTC Gazette articles in the MHSB, and subsequent book. Almost 200 of the Mufti badges in this collection are not included in that list, nor are almost 100 Headdress badges shown in my other albums. Just adding these up we get well above 1,000 units, and I would bet quite a lot that you are aware of at lease a couple of dozen more units that feature in neither, and most county collectors could come up with several each, as well.

Even if we knew haw many units there were, we can never be sure of how many badges. Organisations such as the Athletes Volunteer Force had common badges across multiple units (even if some still had their own) and other units changed designations, such as Newcastle-upon-Tyne CTL becoming Newcastle-upon-Tyne VTC upon joining the CAVTC. All we can do is to continue to collect, research, and build the body of knowledge as we go...

Enough musing; back to work! Best regards, and stay safe, Tim

Have to agree, the VTC albums are incredible and something TWGB should be justifiable proud of.

I have always regretted not having bid considerably more on the Mossley Hill VTC badge that Bosleys once had for sale, its the area of Liverpool I was brought up in and the only example of the badge I have ever seen.

I have to endorse previous remarks.

I know next to nothing in relation to these units, which makes it even more of a pleasure to see such a fine collection......................it may prompt me to learn something of them.

Thanks for showing and sharing.

Regards.

Brian

P.S Peter, both my sons played Rugby for Mossley Hill whilst they were at University in Liverpool.
