Default R.E. economy

I received this badge yesterday and I believe it's a 1916 economy issue. However I'm wondering if there is any problem with it being a restrike. Any comments are appreciated... thanks.

That looks perfectly fine to me. The style of the slider and the reverse detail all point to a genuine economy badge. For what its worth I would have it in my collection.

Jim,

I agree with Alan its A OK, how deep is the crown? It's a bit hard to judge from the photo you have up but it should have a bit of depth to it being from that date unlike most later GviR ones.

Cheers,

Luke

Sorry to say it but I really don't think its an original, the slider is too regular in shape - it should taper or be thinner and not look so beefy either. The fine detail from a good stamping on the back is also missing, badges from that date should be very brassy looking like Jim's.

sorry

Luke

Anyone know why the badge I am showing below has 2 holes drilled into it? Would this activity have been a squadie practice or some other practice? Also, does it alter the value of the badge?

i think it's becausse somebody had nailed it somewhere.....

after the WW1 a lot of english badges that tommy give at people are nailed on the walls in french bistrot (pub) to remenber of the guys who help us.....

the value of the badge is less important
