Default WW1 isignia help required

Hello all,
Can someone identify the insignia worn on this mans left forearm. He was killed 9/5/1915 at Aubers. He was a Cpl in the RFA,the photo isn't that good but the insignia consists of an inverted chevron, 2 crossed items (not flags or rifles, poss cannons ?) and a single white 5 pointed star.

Many thanks

Mick

Could be 2nd Class Gunner badge, although barrels look a bit 'thin', or could be best shot in battery/company/squadron, as their thin proportions 'might' make them rifles, although it is difficult to tell if their is a curve between butt and barrel. Both were off-white embroidered on khaki worsted cloth backing.

To my old eyes, they do look like crossed rifles. Unless its the photo angle, the bottoms (i.e. butt) look to be marginally wider than the top (barrels).
or is it just me...
