Arrow Tower Hamlet Rifles Cloth Shoulder Title

Good day

I'm assuming that this title was worn from 1937 by other ranks? Officers wore a blackened brass THR title from 1937.

Many thanks

James

Not solid evidence, and apologies if you already know, but there is a black on khaki ‘THR’ title, similar to your one, at the IWM. I think that dates from 1922, so a date of 1937 for the green on black one certainly makes sense.

Regards,

Chris

Thanks Chris. Isn't it interesting that they had dropped the T 17 London titles as early as 1922. I think Westlake quotes 1937 which is where I got that date. All the best.

Hello there,

I just realised that it can’t have been 1922, it must have been 1926 at the earliest. Many apologies!

I made that statement because many of the similar, black on khaki, rectangular/trapezium titles for other London units seem to date from just post-1922. I guessed that the green on black ‘R.B.’ colours might therefore date from 1937.

I don’t think they would have necessarily ditched the metal titles at the same time as they took up cloth ones though. There is a thread on here by Jelly Terror which I will try and find, that I think states that the wearing of worsted titles had to be in conjunction with the T-London metal ones, at least for a while.

Sorry that this is a lot of guesswork. Hope I haven’t missed your point.

Chris
