Default Cavalry/Yeomanry/DR?? badge ID

Hello,

Here's a photo of a horseman(?) on what I think is a 1912 Matchless 7 motorbike.

Can anyone ID his cap badge for me please?

I was thinking along the lines of an obscure Yeomanry unit (Royal East Kent / Leicestershire?), but purely because of the size of the shoulder title which appears to be for a unit that isn’t abbreviated with just a couple of letters.

Tony

It's a shape that matches the Royal Corps of Signals both for the cap badge and the s/t.

Thanks Alan! That was quick.

I've just been searching and came to the same conclusion, the shoulder title matches for the Royal Corps of Signals and no doubt a Signalman would be a dispatch rider too.

Except the Corps did not exist when the photo was probably taken. It looks very "Great War" to me.

Ah, didn’t think of that. It looks Great War period to me too and imagine if it was a post war photo he’d be wearing collar dogs.

I believe the AP letters on the bike are for a vehicle registered in Brighton,. Doesn't look like a Sussex Yeo or West Kent Yeo badge, though.

It might be WW1 but equally that uniform was in use until the outset of WW2. Royal Signals was formed in 1 Apr 1920 so it could easily be early 1920s.

No, no collar dogs being worn and the photo isn't clear enough to see if he has one or two darts coming out from under his collar.

Don't you just wish they'd at least write the date on the reverse.
