Default Auckland Infantry Regiment design

Dear Friends.

Could any member of the Forum please advise me of what the meaning within the design of the Auckland Infantry Regiment cap and collar badges as attached below is please.

I really would like to know the significance of the outstretched arm (Looks to be armoured) and what looks like a sheath of corn is. The collar badge in the attached is quite clear and this is the item I am particularly interested in.

I am sure some of our friends from Australasia will be able to advise me.

With my very best wishes and thanks

The Auckland Regiment is the Countess of Ranfurly's Own, so I presume it is associated with the said Countess.

Default Auckland Infantry Regiment

Dear Chris.

You are quite correct but I really want to know the reason for the outstretched arm and sheath of wheat or corn.

Thanks for the swift reply though.

Many thanks

They appear to be the crest and motto of the Eden baronets, of West Auckland. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_baronets

Can't really add much more other than the Regt.'s motto is 'Sisit Prudentia' ... Ever Prudent.
First colours of the 1st Battalion Auckland Infantry were presented at a parade on Queen's Birthday 24th May 1899 by the Countess of Ranfurly wife of the Governor.

The design of the Regiment's cap and collar badges was approved by Lieutentand General Godley, GOC, New Zealand Military Forces, on 10 July 1911.

The upraised,armour-clad arm holding sheaf of wheat is from the coat of arms of Lord Auckland after whom the City and Province of Auckland is named. The Crown symbolises loyalty to the monarch and the fern leaves symbolise New Zealand.

The Latin motto 'Sisit prudentia' means ‘Ever prudent'.

Thank you Quicksilver, it makes much more sense than what I presumed it to be.

Cheers

Default Auckland Infantry Regiment

Dear Friends

Quicksilver has answered the question extremely well and from what Thomas had advised I have been able to put together the answer to the question I raised.

The actual "Dexter" embowed arm clad in armour grasping a annulated Garbe (Wheat-sheaf) is the Crest part (Top) of the Eden family Baronetcy of West Auckland (Baron Auckland) Coat of Arms with the family motto of Sisit Prudentia (Ever Prudent) shown at the foot of the heraldic Coat of Arms.

Delighted to have found this information and hope to use it in the near future on a project involving the Auckland Infantry Regiment.

Many thanks for your help

Best wishes
