You did well at 16 quid as I believe that this badge will really appreciate in value over the years as people start to understand fully the relationship between A/A pieces and their importance as historical items within the British Army. Regards Chris |

I've got a mint un-opened copy of Chris's book here in the UK which is available for sale, it won't be much cheaper than his advertised price, but you could save a bit if prepared to collect!

Damn, back in the early 60s I went to school with twins whose older brother joined the R. Sigs and he gave me one of these badges. Sadly in my disgust for Staybrite it went.
I can narrow it down to being 1962-3 if that helps anyone. |

The badge was originally authorised via the LoC in 1955 and rejected by the Headquarters of the Training Brigade of the Royal Corps of Signals on 26th April 1958. By 1963 the replacement item, which is the piece most commonly encountered, was recorded for the first time in the Catalogue of Clothing and Necessaries (CCN). So, it looks like your timing reconciles with the introduction of the replacement item. Regards Chris |

Royal Signals A/A Badge
Dear Friends.
As I remember I was issued with one of this style badge back in 1964. In fact I was issued two. One for my beret and one for my blue forage cap as the SD uniform had just been replaced with the No2 Dress uniform. The problem with this badge is it used to break around the knee area when worn on the beret. ( As I recall berets used to be flung about quite regularly). The long arm at the reverse did not protect it well enough until proper back plates were introduced some time later. Perhaps that is why this version of "Jimmy" is not as common as many others. Best wishes Chris Walker www.signalsbadges.co.uk |
