Default Unusual Royal Signals Badge

I came across this on ebay. I have never came across one like it before.
Can anyone tell me anything about it, when it was used etc.?

It wasn't used. It's a bodge job.

It's the standard jimmy, but instead of the stand alone crown, someone's taken a crown from somewhere and put the two together.

Note the crown is brass and the jimmy is AA.

Looks like someone thinks its worth something though - people will buy owt!

Daft buggers.

Cheers,

Andy C

Not my area but it looks like it's been made from two badges, possibly a collar with the crown and slider from another badge?

Your right Charlie,i have one amongst my a/a Corps badges.
if its was sealed in 1955 that would be a very early a/a badge.I havent a clue as to sealing date for the two piece badge. Its possible that the slider version was replaced by the two piece badge.

Andy,
sorry mate not a "Botch Job" but a rather scarce early pattern Anodised Royal Signals "As Issued" cap badge! No wonder you thaught it was a "Wrong Un" as they don't show up too often!!

Reference - Marsh AAF27.

Saw one at Stockport a few years back and wondered about its provenience, as it did indeed look correct and not made up, the loops were wider to take the slider for example..

An interesting thread. In forty years of collecting signal items I have not seen this combination.

Hi Guys,

It's a genuine item and quite scarce if may even be described as rare.

Both 54Bty and Andy are quite correct.

Regards

Chris

Hi Guys,

From the list of changes:

List Of Changes dated 30th September 1955 - Change Numbers C 6754 to C 6819

Badges, Cap;
Change Number C 6760
Unit Name: Royal Corps of Signals
CB No. A.A. CB 7246 G.M. and W.M. CB 7247
Designation: R. Signals (Vertical shank and loop fastening)

Designation Notes:
NEW PATTERN. A pattern (No. 16685) has been sealed to govern future manufacture. The new pattern differs from the old (No. 13788A) Cat. Nos. CB 3039 (C 4717) in that the crown is fitted with a vertical shank to act as fastening pin to the figure of Mercury.

There is a lot more info on this badge in:

Anodised Aluminium:The 'No Bull' Cap Badge of the British Army

Regards

Chris

My apologies, yet again completely wrong.

Rare indeed, never saw one in my years in the Royal Signals!
