Hi Gents,
Hopefully this link might help on the cameronians sporran badge. https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30074668 Best Regards Colin |

I like the reference to "protective cloth: square of white cloth with two vertical red stripes stapled to front of card to protect badges".
I still have some "4 x 2" laying around somewhere in the garage. |

Well, I have two possibles for this combination, neither of which I am confident of:-
1. Has the Cameronians strap with a sphinx below which is on a single horizontal flat lug - being ident (I believe) to the early pattern South Wales Borderers collar. This badge is discussed in Churchill's, but doubts they were ever worn (as a SWB collar badge that is). 2. Has the Cameronians strap with a slightly larger sphinx with two horizontal round wire lugs. However I also have this badge listed as a sporren badge for The Gordon Highlanders. So, they are either both wrong (and there is yet a third sphinx) or one of them is correct as per the IWM documents. |

Hi Bess,
I think you are on to something with option 2. I rather like the look of the lugs on both parts of the 2 badges as they are very similar My guess is option 2 seems more likely with the sphinx having 2 lugs. I think this may not be a Gordon Highlanders sphinx as first thought? As far as I am aware the Q.C Gordon Highlander sporran is, please see the white metal badge picture attached below. Unless of course the Pipers of the Gordon Highlanders wore a different sporran compared to the regulars. Just as a point of interest the Cameronians collar badges are in silver anodised. I have never seen blackened ones before ( unless painted). Best Regards Colin |

My Cameronians collars are black painted metal unfortunately.
The silver AA collars are on my wish list . . but they tend to reside in unicorn territory. |

Churchill quotes silver anodised and black anodised.
