Can't really help with how they were administered.
Thanks Eddie!!!

The one on the left looks like it has been crimped into place - see the circular 'moat' around the badge body where the clasp appears to enter it.

The one on the right has been soldered/welded/brazed (dunno which - not studied this properly yet).

The clasp of the on the right is also very similar to the WRAC Guards Depot badge.

If you are interested, I have a bi metal APL mashedda badge which has the bottom part of the pin welded or soldered on. No makers name. Also have another bimetal with lugs and no name, a silver plate and gilt, lugs, with JR Gaunt London stamped on it, and an anodized with JR Gaunt London on the slider. Gilt and silver plate collars with lugs and no name. FRA Gilt and silver plate brooch pin no name and welded/soldered catch and same for anodized and no name. Another anodized with a slider with JR Gaunt. Have two collars in anodized but no makers name. Presume gilt and silver plate collars also issued. The SAA or South Arabian Army evolved from the FRA and FNG combined and I have only ever seen it in anodized with a slider and JR Gaunt on the slider. Incidently have the badge with basic silver colour and green enamel and with a gold basic colour and where the green should be on the scroll has been painted in black matt. The handles and star are also black. Never had an explanation why that is. Perhaps it was worn by the former FNG who had black as their Regimental colour. Four katibas or battalions of the FNG joined the five battalions of FRA in 1967 to make up the SAA. I may add that I saw the FNG still wearing their old FNG bagdes a month after becoming SAA.

Hi Quicksilver,

I'd be keen to see any of these cap badges (not collars) in anodised aluminium with makers names on sliders or relief cast to the body.

Regards

Chris

Thanks Quicksilver,

Looks like the APL is marked to slider and body.
