12th Lancers arm badge
Hi Guys,
I believe this to be a 12th Lancers NCO arm badge. Would anyone happen to know what period this was worn? Regards, Mick

I too, would have thought 9th/12th, for Number 1 Dress rather than Mess Dress, a difficult thing to date though, without knowing the manufacturer and the particular contract, certainly something that continued in use well into the 1990's.
One of the Hussar regiments had something very similar, but, not embroidered upon the blue/black backing. |

Here is a more recent 9/12L No1 Dress arm badge.

I'd suggest, subject to confirmation of the dimensions of this badge, that from its style/design & quality it is most likely a 12th Lancer Arm Badge. The Regt. wore Embroidered Arm Badges as early as 1834 I believe, although I'm not suggesting yours is that old. It is quite hard to date, I'd suggest yours could be pre or post WWII, they were worn on Blue Patrols between the wars and on No.1 Dress 1950-1960. Its also known that the wear of some 12L Emb. Arm Badges was carried over on amalgamation to the 9/12L, along with their White-metal ones. There is quite a lot written about this in both L&D's and Seaman's books on Arm Badges. Hope this is of help. Regards Rob

The badge on that colour plate is more or less the same, so I don't think we have to debate this any further, I would certainly now assume 12th Lancers Number 1 Dress post war.
