very fine collection Ali. I also use skulls for hat stands!
I notice you have a welsh guards, I have a similar one dated 1958, but missing its buttons, I must remember to get some for it. I also like your mini drum ice buckets!

The Welsh Guards cap is lovely, mine's nowhere near as old as yours though. My favourites are the Grenadier, RA and my new NF oh and the M1's of course |

Where did you get your wooden stands for the caps? I've been looking for something like that.

Aha! this was Leigh's brilliant idea, buy a bulk load of kitchen towel holders cheap on ebay, stick polystyrene balls on the end and voila! I could actually paint or varnish the stands and put relevant badges on them but I haven't gotten around to that.

Thanks Alli. That's a great idea. I'll have to check out the Dollar Store for el-cheapo kitchen holders.
One thing, since polystyrene breaks down over time and goes powdery, you should seal the balls and cover them with unbleached cotton. A friend of mine tried to sell me some old polystyrene heads for my caps but they'd already started to deteriorate, so I said thanks, but no thanks. David |

Yes I should have said the polystyrene doesn't come in contact with the caps, they are all lined with polythene bags or bubble wrap to help retain the shape and to not put stress on the stitching.

Some of that stuff can still break down over time and become sticky. Best to use polyester or polypropylene.
