Default Assistance with these two photos

The first is my great grandmother. We had no idea she did anything for the war effort (in an official capacity). Her husband was in the RA. I thought this could have been a fancy dress moral boosting postcard she sent him, but I have no idea. Any identifiable marks?

The next, is a family member of whom we know little. Photo date is May 1940.
Looks quite senior in years and has some war medals above the breast pocket?
Anything you can harness from this?

The first one is a WW2 Royal Artillery uniform and side cap and she is no doubt just dressing up in his uniform for a photo.

The second is possibly the Border Regiment but I am not 100% as I can only see the cap badge at an angle. He is a veteran on WW1 and may be Regular Army or Home Guard, but no uniform badges present to indicate the latter.

regards

Default Identifying photos

If at all possible a location of where the person lived is always helpful in identifying badges.

As Simon said "Border Regt" a good possibility, however, the location would probably clinch it.

I'd totally agree with the above replies. Gran dressing up in his uniform for the picture, a very common practice.

The second is in my opinion an early Home Guard photo, taken before the issue of BD.

The photo was taken in Leeds. That's where my family originate.
My great grandfather (whose uniform she is wearing) was in the 50th Inf (Northumbrian) 72nd field regiment RA. They recruited from North and East Yorkshire and probably West Yorkshire after Dunkirk.

We still don't know who he is in that last photo, but guessing he is in his 50's? The backdrop curtain looks to have a strange ancient Greek style thing in the background!

Here is my great grandad (and g.grandmother as pictured earlier)
Just for completeness. Fake pyramids in the background, yet he was actually in Egypt during his service and before being captured by the DAK in Libya.

Great Grandmother wearing a Royal Artillery sweetheart brooch or badge in that last photo.

I've been seeing the badge as a star shape as per the Border regiment or the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment - but is it actually a grenade, larger than the Royal Artillery collar / Field Service cap grenade - Royal Fusiliers or similar?

I agree Leigh, I was thinking of the Royal Scots but that just can't be right. Bedfs&Herts is a more likely candidate.

I think, in the second photo in the opening post, the cap badge has something tucked behind it. It could possibly be East Yorkshire Regiment with a feather or something like that behind it.

Again, I was wondering if it was a flower or pom pom, closest I could think was KOYLI, would they have worn a white "Minden Rose" at that time?

Cool Badge ID

How about Royal Scots Fusiliers.

You can never say never - but provision of details of the member of the family concerned or enquiries with MOD re that person may be the easiest way to firm up the unit concerned.
