I have seen a lot of these. I think it is a brooched collar badge, ""a poor man's sweetheart badge. Nurses badges were"generally in white metal.

Other than being in white metal is the badge exactly the same design?

That's cool ,I had this photo of an Australian nurse wearing a Rising Sun Badge collar. And I also have the collar badge with the Broach ,so I wondered if they were the same .Thanks for clarifying

No just a sweetheart badge.
Here are some photos of the nurses badge being worn at the throat of the cape.

A silver version of the Australian “Rising Sun” Collar badge was worn at the throat of the dress.

Hope this helps you.

hi iain
as already mentioned, the rising sun collar made in silver and pin backed was worn as the cape attachment at the throat.
the tradition was carried through to ww2 however i believe the ww1 versions were all sterling silver where the ww2 versions i have seen have been silver, silver plate and chrome plated.
cheers
