New Beret Badge
Officers & WO1s "Dress. Of principal interest will be the design of the future Royal Lancers cap badge. The absolute requirement for the cap badge was for a clear, impressive, memorable image which will instil a sense of professionalism and pride in all who wear it and all who support it. It was crucial to incorporate the best of our antecedent regiments, and we have spent some time, and not a small amount of money, developing numerous prototypes for consideration. From the outset we have been in agreement that the cap-badge must include the lances of 9/12L and the death’s head of the QRL. Cloth and metal designs were considered. The chosen, unified design delivers a striking balance, incorporating a cloth backing of crossed lances with a detached ‘or glory' banner in blue, below a metal skull and cross-bones. It is a simple, powerful, recognisable emblem which each and every Royal Lancer will be proud of." [CO 9th/12thL 21Nov13]

Arm Badge
NCO and Soldiers:- To be worn on the right sleeve in No1 & No2 dress "The Prince of Wales’ feathers, as the oldest of any of our devices, is to be retained in a new regimental badge. The Prince of Wales’ Badge, as it is to be known, is based upon the cap badge of the 9/12L, depicting the Prince of Wales’s feathers, adorned with a crown and backed with crossed lances. It will be worn on the upper arm of all non-commissioned officers and soldiers." [CO 9th/12thL 21Nov13]

It looks like there will be a service dress cap badge, in new metal, as well as the beret badge above? Not seen yet though.... early days.
The scroll less Motto that has been seen on eBay recently now makes sense

Indeed..... but a Motto twice removed is a cap badge We must look to the future, the tragedy is the history that is fast disappearing .....

On a seperate note regarding the make up of the badge, intersting that they chose part of the both units for the badge.
When 17/21st & 16/5th merged, only 17/21st part was kept, and when 17th & 21st merged, again, only the 17th Lancers part of the badge was kept. Surely they could have just got away with keeping the QRL badge again? cheers, Andy C

To be honest I like the new badge.... BUT I would have preferred the Motto to be kept whole...... now ..... its a skull and crossed bones. I think the new SD Cap metal badge will look better when it eventually arrives....assuming that they are not going to simply frig the Beret Badge up with a slider and keep the cloth lances?

Quote:
Thank you for posting images of the proposed new insignia for the Royal Lancers, beat me to it. Regarding the ' Prince of Wales's Badge' a few corrections, it is to be worn on the LEFT arm on No.1 (2" below the Chain mail point) & No.2 Dress, by ALL RANKS. The Officers and WO1's will wear a smaller version. Members reading this should bear in mind that all the above is subject to ratification by the Army Dress Committee, and I believe we should hear the outcome by Feb 2014. Rob |

Well the 9th/12th Lancer's Commanding Officer has called it a cap badge..... I will not presume to correct him .... its half a Motto now.
